BAROTSELAND

The only connection Zambia’s Western Province has to the outside world is a thin, 650km road that dead-ends at the end of a series of 26 bridges over the Zambezi floodplains. Today this is Zambia’s poorest region, yet the country benefits from the region’s natural hardwood, water, fish, and fertile soil resources, and is fast bringing development to speed the exportation, while the Lozi live peacefully, though in relative poverty, and retain their traditional leadership and customs highlighted by a seasonal Kuomboka ceremony to honor their king.
